When Moons Collide
Shay knew that she belonged to two worlds.
One was reality. Where there was school that made you learn surface level things and people would laugh at the way she is. Where neighbors would suspiciously look at her as she walked around with her pet, Betsy who always made a point to bare her teeth. Where rules must be followed even if illogical.
She wouldn’t say she truly belonged but she was there to live a life her father wanted for her. Normalcy. Whatever that means.
The other world was Astral. It was a plane beyond reality where the most majestic things happened. Where her powers manifested the day she saw 2 moons colliding.
“Woah.” Shay exclaimed as pink bursts of air pushed out from her hands.
“Human what in the hell are you doing here?!” An elf with sky blue skin with white glittery marks called put to her. “Don’t you know its dangerous out here for a human when the moons collide-“he noticed the pink air just coming out of her. “Halfsies. As if this day could get more once in a two moons.”
“Why can’t humans be around when the moons collided?” Shay found herself asking. She was always being pulled in out of the two worlds but at Astral she spends at most an hour before she’s back to reality again. Before this she was just taking a nap on the couch. Astral people barely ever interacted with her too so she doesn’t know much of the world she’d rather belong in.
“As you can see with your powers manifesting, those are unstable by the way. When the two moons collide there’s excess energy all around and when humans are exposed to it, they transform into one us here in Astral.” The elf explained pointing to the pink river the moons made after colliding in the sky. “That right there is excess energy, just wait a bit it’ll fizzle out and you can go back to Earth.”
“So what you’re saying is that energy can turn me into one of you guys?”
“First never refer to us as ‘guys’. We are not like you. Second, probably. I’ve seen some fools bring their human lovers here and watch the humans turn into Fern beings.”
“Say no more.” Shay said, somehow controlling her powers to plunge her up to the pink river above.
Her dog barked up at her from below, unnoticed.
