WRITING OBSTACLE
Create a scene depicting the approach of a thunderstorm, without mentioning the sky.
What other elements feel different when a storm is approaching?
Dew On The Horizon
The forest goes silent, animals and birds seem to fade away
The horizon is dimming- It must be close to dusk
That’s when I smell it.
Creeping in slowly at first, out of the dirt and onto the air
then beginning to cling to clothes and skin
You can try but you cannot ignore;
The electric humidity in the air and the soft waves of sound
Coming down from clouds grown dark and heavy
Seeming to be unable to carry what they are made of
You can feel it now
Rumbling inside of your chest
Rattling against the hollow of your ribcage
Silent whispers of wind singing sweet nothings to the trees come down from overhead
A storm has arrived
All is still
As if someone has paused the forest altogether
Then, it begins to wake
_Pit pat pit pat pitterpatterpitpatpitpatpitpat_
the sounds echo off of trees and wood
Streams fill and ferns weep with joy
Uncurling their buds and stretching wide
The long awaited rain gives life to life itself
Tomorrow the verdent forest floor will sing with mirth
When the rain comes
