STORY STARTER
Your character goes to bed with a sore back and wakes up to find they grew wings overnight.
Growing Wings
Oh my back is sore. Hopefully, by the time I wake up tomorrow, it will be better. I wonder what happened to me? I don’t remember falling out of a tree or anything like that. Ah well. I suppose I just need to try and get comfortable and go to sleep.
Argh. It is so difficult to get comfortable. I keep turning and turning, spinning and spinning. But I just cannot find a place that works. Oh. I hope I can get to sleep. Tossing and turning. Turning and tossing. Argh. At least my covers are keeping me warm. Hmm. Maybe I’m finally getting sleepy. Maybe…
* Wow! That was a great sleep. I feel… Wait a minute. I feel trapped. Like I wrapped myself up so tight in my covers that I cannot escape. Oh goodness. Argh! Wait. Oh. I can move a little. Yep. I think… Nope. Gotta try again. But first a little rest. Okay. Try it again. There. Woo hoo! I’m free. But that last push took some effort. Who knew getting out of bed could be such a chore. I gotta rest again. *
“Lookin’ good bro!”
“Yeah! Nice set of wings!”
“See you on the flip side!”
What are they talking about. I’ve never seen any of those guys before. And wings? What are they… Oh wow! I do have wings. I can feel them. I wonder if I can…
Woo hoo! I can fly! “I can fly!”
“Of course you can, idgit. You’re a butterfly.”
“A butterfly? But I just went to sleep yesterday.”
“Nah. Like I said, idgit. You’re a butterfly. And like the rest of us, you wrapped yourself up in a cocoon a few months ago, and now emerged a butterfly. Again. Just… like… the… rest…”
“I get it. Just like the rest of us. Everybody here is a butterfly. Including me.” Sigh. “I suppose I should be happy. It’s just that…”
“It’s just that what?”
“It’s just that I was getting used to all those legs.”
“Yeah. But now you can fly.”
“Right. Now I can fly. Woo hoo! I’m a butterfly!”
