COMPETITION PROMPT

Write a poem or story about a mirror struggling with the fact that she has no identity of her own. (What could this be symbolic of?)

Fragmented Identity

I am a mirror on a wall

trying so hard not to fall

I can be whatever

it is you want to see

a pretty face,

an ugly frown,

a bubbled tear falling down.

buy myself i never will know

for it’s only you can I show.

I am a mirror on a wall

I’ve been forced to see it all.

I watch you pick

apart your body

but lucky are you

to have legs that run

and ears that hear

a face that smiles

and a heart that feels

I am a mirror on a wall

trying my hardest not to fall.

For it’s only you I ever will be

and myself I never will see.
