A Hero

I leaned against the white marble wall. I could barely breathe, my heart thumping out of my chest. Beneath the sound of my drumming heart was a silence, shattered by the creaking of a door being opened. A teenage boy walked in, his shining black boots clicking every time he stepped. My anxiety was joined by a jumble of other feelings I didn’t recognize. Through the overwhelming emotions, I somehow managed to play it cool. “Hey, so this is just a big misunderstanding. Giant.” I looked into his green eyes, which reminded me why I was in this prison. “Very funny Glacier, you had one job. Kill… that girl.” He looked at the ground for a moment, looking deep in thought. “I know you don’t want to hurt her.” I twisted my finger through my wavy white hair, wondering if I shouldn't have said that. It was true, though. Favorite color? No idea. But his darkest secrets? Those I knew well. “You don’t know anything about me!” Fire radiated through him, from fancy boots to messy black hair. “I know why your father is dead. I know why you always stumble when it’s about her. I know why you never talk about them. I know why you’re scared to show your face to her. I know everything about you, meanwhile, you know nothing about me. I know Keiran, I know.” I looked back into his green eyes, seeing weakness and pain. “How? No… it can’t be, this isn’t real…” he fell on his knees. “It’s very real. But you don’t have to live like this, knowing you killed your father _and_ sister. You could join her, you could be the hero. Pain can be healed, scars can’t. What do you say, star boy?” Maybe it was someone talking through me, but as the words poured through my mouth I thought I had helped for once. “I-I can't. What if she knows?” He lifted his head tears pouring down his face. “She doesn’t, and she never will unless you tell her. It’s your choice for her to know.” For once in the boys eyes she didn’t see a fierce leader ready to crush anyone in his way, she saw a weak little boy without a family. She saw someone who could save the world.
