The woman stood with unmatched regality before her bathroom mirror, checking for any spots or blemishes and smiling satisfied when she realised she was still perfect as ever.

*Knock*

The sound rapped against the door.

“Yes? What is it my dear?”

The door creaked open just a little and in stepped a small girl no older than around seven.

“What’s wrong sweetheart?” The woman turned to face her.

“One of the boys at school did this!” The little girl faces her phone towards the woman showing a video of her sleeping in class.

“Oh, darling you shouldn’t be sleeping in class.”

“But I didn’t! I don’t know how they did it, but they made a video of me that never happened.”

The woman thinks about this for a moment. And tells the girl she’ll sort this out and for her to go back to her room and play.

“Mirror in my hand, tell me what I demand.”

An AI voice speaks through the woman’s phone.

“How can a video be made of something that never happened, but look so realistic?”

The application thinks for a moment before explaining Ai and how that may be the cause.

“Can this Ai you speak of do anything?” She asks.

“I am Ai myself and I can do whatever you command as long as it’s within my boundaries.”

The woman thinks and then asks it show her a picture of herself as a Queen.

It does what she asks and she cackles.

“My this is fun, it looks just like me, but that’s also a scary thing. My daughter doesn’t need this!”

The next day the woman gets her daughter ready for school, she combs through her hair, snagging on a particularly uncomfortable knot, then she ties her shoes a little too tight before handing her her lunch including an apple. She tells her she’s going to go into school with her head held high and show them she is not the kind of girl who sleeps in class.

After dropping her off in the playground the woman heads to the head teachers office to have strong words about what’s been happening. She promises to get to the bottom of it, but that’s also night the little girl shows another Ai generated video of her, this time choking on the apple before passing out.

This was too much for the woman who decided to call for the police. The police spoke to the mother and child and decided they’d go into school and have a talk with the children.

They explain how what has happened to the little girl is bullying, and that whoever is responsible will be in a lot of trouble if they don’t come forward.

A small boy announces he was the one responsible and explains he did it because he thought the girl would find it funny and maybe she’ll like him for showing the cool stuff he can do.

The police explain to him about consent and how making videos of people without their knowledge is a scary thing to do. The boy apologises and the girl accepts his apology. Life continues rather mundanely after that, but at least everyone learnt a lesson.

Consent is key and Ai should never be used for harm. It’s a tool, not a weapon.
