The Bridge is Crossed
The ache of my burning, bludgeoned heart throbs the reminder of its continued pumping. Its ventricles opening and shamelessly flooding it with the very thing seeping from its walls. In its weeping, it forgets to guard itself against further assault. And so, of course, there you were. That wretched grimace you always wore still etched on your aged face. Full of a confidence that I was sure you didn’t deserve.
And from the moment I saw that fire dancing in your leering eyes, I knew that I must set the fire myself or risk getting burned by yours.
‘The only answer is arson.’
I turned from you and that venoumous sneer telling myself I would never look into the fire of your eyes again and fall into the depths of the inevitable hell that awaited me there. No. I burned that bridge to the ground. My bloodied, broken heart beating in my ears was better than having it torn from my own flesh and devoured by the demon before me.
