STORY STARTER
Write a small section of your novel where a slow scene is immediately followed by faster, more dramatic action.
Figuring out your pacing for certain scenes may help you when you come to write them in full.
The Crew
Nate looked out over the open water. It had been a quiet not so far but he knew that it could change at the drop of a hat. The smell of salt water and fish filled the air. Water covered the deck making it a bit slippery but not to the point of being a hazard. Pulling out his phone he decided to send the drone out to look a little further out than he could normally see. Within a few minutes the drone was up in the air. As soon as it was outside of his view he noticed something odd in front of the ship. Reaching into his pocket Nate pulled out a small device and pushed a small button sounding an alarm. The night air was suddenly filled with flashing red lights and a blaring alarm. Moments later there was scrambling of foot steps of the rest of the crew coming to see what had happened.
