STORY STARTER

“What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve believed?”

Start your story with a character asking this question.

Spiral Don’t Circle

“What was the most ridiculous thing that you’ve believed?” The villain asked.

“The same thing we all believed in at some point and some of us still do. We all want to believe in three things:

1) Everyone thinks like us.

2) Everyone knows exactly what they’re doing and everything is intentional.

3) Nobody is born bad

Call me foolish but I still believe that last part,” the hero said as he put down his weapon.

“Are you st…” before the villain could finish his sentence, the hero let out a sigh before continuing his monologue.

“However, I guess what the MOST ridiculous thing I ever believed, was that I was the hero and you were a villain. The real issue wasn’t that I or society believes that. No, the real problem is that you believe it.” He said.

It was clear this was angering the villain, but he kept going anyway.

“The truth is, you’re just a hurt little boy with grown man power. Misunderstood. Sad. Lonely. Lost. Confused. You were never handed an excuse for yourself, at least you believe that. But that’s what happens with tunnel vision. You get so focused on your message or goal, that you miss all of the small things that lead you to where you really want to be. The most ridiculous thing I believed was that you needed to be stopped. No, I realize now that you just needed to be redirected and given different tools…” he said.

*stab*

“Just shut up!” The villain said, piercing the hero with his sword.

“You paid the price for my message, now it’s time I pay the price for yours,” the hero said, as he died with a smile.

“ARE YOU STUPID?!” The villain said with tears running down his face.

And just like that a hero fell, now it’s time for another to rise. But will it be this so-called villain or someone else? Something only seems ridiculous when it hasn’t been proven true yet, but ridiculous and impossible are not the same.

Beliefs are in place when we have something we want to protect. We want to protect things when they hold value to us. Value is determined by perspective. Perspective is formed throughout our lives. Everyone lives a different life.

So how could anyone expect unity? Should we continue to reach for it? Try. Strive. Thrive. A cycle that will never end.

Ridiculous, isn’t it?
