Little Words Turned Lies
Clouds cover the skies,
Rain pulls at your eyes,
But nothing hurts as much
As little words turned lies.
A whisper meant to soothe,
Now echoes sharp and cold,
Promises once honeyed,
Now bitter, cracked, and old.
The hand that reached for comfort
Now trembles when it’s nearby—
For trust is not so easy
When truth forgets to appear.
The skies may break with thunder,
The winds may scream and spin,
But the quiet sting of falsehood
Still burns beneath the skin.
For silence could be mercy,
And distance may be kind,
But words, once dipped in sweetness,
Can rot within the mind.
You smiled when you said it—
Soft syllables, so sly.
And I believed each letter
Before I learned to cry.
Now every storm reminds me
Of nights I felt you fade,
When all the light we carried
Was smothered by your blade.
So let the heavens open—
Let sorrow soak the ground.
But no flood could ever match
The way your voice could drown.
