POEM STARTER

Write a poem that starts in a cheerful, bright mood, but then reveals underlying anger or bitterness.

Apple Seeds Are Poisonous

The perfect little angel,

You can do no wrong.

You never have to change at all,

Like pitch kept through a song.

Best looking in the family,

The brainiest to boot.

Social skills and empathy,

Sink every shot you shoot.

My darling older sister,

Apple of our parents’ eyes.

In your shadows is this mister,

I watch and I despise.

Sickened to my stomach,

All the gushing everyday.

Like a half hung hammock,

I just can’t match your sway.

Constantly compared to you,

I just want to run my race.

Instead no matter what I do,

I’m awarded second place.

And you don’t even notice,

Nobody does in short.

No underlying motive,

Cos I’m not even a thought.

So sis and mum and daddy,

With you this note I share.

We’ll see if you remember me,

If I’m no longer there…
