STORY STARTER
Write a scene where a character confesses their (unreturned) love for another.
A Single Sunrise
They both settled down at the crack of dawn, just as they had been each day leading up to now. Their eyes looked over the precipice in silence. So many memories were made in this one place alone. Fingers wrapping around her own as he spoke of this spot he discovered wandering through paradise. Time stretched and her mind was full of complaints, but the thought of turning away never crossed her mind once because he said that his first thought of when he saw that view was making sure he brought her along to experience it as well. And that was special. They never truly left after that. The may still spent most of their time elsewhere, but here was now what she considered home.
Sunlight reflected off the water as it rose above the sea and into the clear orange skies. The weight of his head resting on her shoulder grounded her, made her stable.
She took his hand and brought it to her lips. “You’re an idiot,” she said.
His eyes finally locked with mine. “Fair,” he answered, the corner of his mouth lifting.
She exhaled through her nose. “I’m serious. You are,” she asserted.
“I scored the same as you, didn’t I?”
“I don’t mean academic smart.”
“Then what?” A beat. “I suck at being social.”
“I am too.” Her body shifted, he mirrored her movements.
The sun shown far above them by now, the sky was no longer painted orange and pink. But it would bring out a hint of orange in his hair, already touseled by the breeze.
“Why did you bring me here?” She asked.
“You always liked to watch the sunrise,” he answered, “You never said it outright, but I noticed how you looked out the window every morning.”
“…You were right,” she conceded, “I love this view.”
His eyes sparkled. “I knew it.”
“…And I love you.” The world stilled then.
She wasn’t sure if she ever said that part aloud. Now, she’s hoping that she didn’t. Because she never recieved an answer.
