Sword Whisperer

In my spare time I have developed a unique hobby fit for a serial killer. I stumbled on it when I accidentally almost sliced a whole finger cause the knife was terrible. It was knife sharpening and eventually blade smithing.

Mr. Hachiro was one of the last people alive keeping this craft alive and upon meeting him during one of my hyper focused bouts of sharpening random knives, I became his apprentice. He was impressed with my passion, gifting me with his prized works when I finally perfected making my first knife.

It was the highest standard of sword that I have ever seen. Or will ever probably since I can’t afford to go to japan.

“That’s the level you should aspire to.” He told me as I marveled at my finger tracing the edge. It pricked me but that’s just how good it is. Barely a touch and already there’s damage.

I don’t only have a serial killer’s hobby too. I love to read books. Especially truck-kun ones where the protagonist gets sent to another universe. I will eat that up breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It eventually ate me up too as while there was a surprise solar eclipse during the day and I happened to be crossing the road, the car that hit me sent me all the way to the land of Esbjorn. The land of swords, dragon taming and political enemies making deals with the devil to conquer neighboring lands.

The land where I ended up in front of the main character Gunnar. Words cannot describe how handsome he actually was. Tall with features so sharp they can cut me and it would be an honor. Even Mr. Miyagi would agree with the craftsmanship his parents did to make that.

He stared at me for moment and being the fool I am I muttered a small “Hi.” With a wave.

Gunnar took that as a sign of aggression apparently, hot headed man he was.

His sword came down and I saw the faces of my people in his blade.

My people?!

His sword made me remember demons and half turned humans who made deals to gain power.

Upon seeing my reflection on the sword, it seems I have taken the position of Sabine a half demon with an unrequited love for Gunnar as he falls for a princess.

Even in the next universe my love life is still doomed I see.

“Stop!” I say putting my hands up to cover myself.

Gunnar stopped just an inch before I was officially armless.

“First time I’ve ever seen a demon give up so cowardly.” He commented, putting the sword back into his scabbard.

“Well you didn’t give the others a chance to say anything.” I say, remembering the faces of all the demons struck down. They were screaming, only stopping when their bodies were slit.

“You’re unique. What exactly are you?” Gunnar touched my curved horns.

I stared into his eyes. “I’m Sabine and I can help you beat the Lord Nyke.” Alright since I’m already here might as well follow the story beat for beat so I can end it quickly.

From what I remember Sabine died to protect Gunnar’s love. Who says if I will do that time will only tell for now its survival.

“First time I’ve seen a demon so willing to betray their liege. I’m not trusting you so easily.” He grabbed some rope and tied my wrists with it.

“I can help you find the Agate of Life.” I say knowing the purpose of his journey was to find it.

That got his attention. “What makes you so confident?”

“I’m half demon. I can ask the land and animals where its hiding.”

“What an amusing skill you’re lying about, demon.”

I pull him closer using the rope he’s holding onto to prevent me from escaping. Any other time he would have stayed put since I’m half demon, he got pulled roughly onto me. I may have underestimated Sabine’s strength as he was known lying atop of me.

Not complaining though. This is my fangirl dreams.

“I’m not lying, I’ll even lead you to it. Its in Heliodor.”

“That’s the land of demons. You’re really not making it easy to trust you, Sara was it?”

Gunnar really wasn’t good at remembering names.

“Its Sabine and it wasn’t always filled with demons. It used to be beautiful land that protected the wonders with the animals and otherbeings. Its the war that has made it this way. Even your sword remembers.” I say, tapping it with a finger.

“How do you know? Its just a sword.” Gunnar got off of me and left me lying on the grass.

“Its made from the mineral Mairead only found in in Heliodor.”

“So you’re saying you can talk to swords now?” Gunnar crossed his arms.

I sighed. “Your sword tells me you recently slain bat half forms in Thanh. They were terrozing the town taking their children and turning them into fermented food for their queen.” Upon seeing the sword, it showed me how the children were wrapped in the queens special string she creates to hang them above.

“A sword whisperer demon. My adventure only keeps suprising me.”

“You have nothing to lose or gain using me. You don’t have any leads as to where Agate of Life except me.” Please buy into it Gunnar let the story move already.

“Demons are untrustworthy. Who says you’re not doing to lead me to a trap?”

I laugh. Using my nail I cut a little bit on my wrist. Red blood poured out.

Gunnar frowned. He was used to seeing demons bleed black or purple depending on what type they transformed into.

“My human father was used as a plaything for a demon. When I came out neither side would take me.” Sabine’s story was so sad. Her parents both abandoned her and her only true family was the land and animals that communicated with her. As a child she’d get food through the land leading her to where the mushrooms were. As a habit she’d ask permission before eating them.

Gunnar took out his sword again and swung it down. Damn it my negotiation failed and now I’m going to get killed-

The sword cut the rope tying my wrists together right in the middle. A perfect precise strike. Wouldn’t expect nothing else from the best in the land.

He sat on the ground next me. “An orphan. Didn’t expect to have something in common with a demon.” He handed me a hankerchief. I wiped my bleeding wrist with it. He was suspicious at first now he was accomodatingly kind. “Lead the way. You’re the first sign to anything close to Agate of Life that I have had in months.”

He held out his hand. I took it and the handshake was firm, binding me to his side as his official guide on this adventure.

“Just know I won’t hesitate to kill you if you ever try to betray me.” Gunnar warned.

I smiled, knowingly. “You’re right about that.”

In the story, Sabine got killed when she betrayed Gunnar’s orders to stay put with the others as she saw his love, Anais being taken by the Lord Nyke. She pushed her out of the way as Lord Nyke struck down his sword, intending it for his mortal enemy’s love.

The fan forums were going crazy when this happened and the shippers for SabinexGunnar were writing so much fanfiction wherein she lived instead it became a sub genre: Sabine Survives.
