STORY STARTER
"Everybody wants to judge, but nobody wants to listen."
Write about a character who is going through a typically stigmatised situation. As an added challenge, try to write from the perspective of the opposite gender to yourself.
Soldier
Everyone wants to judge but nobody wants to listen .
The nurse comes in .Shes carrying a tray that holds a bowl of what could only be described as
Cat food and some sort of jelly like desert .Every day at the same time she walks in and passes me the same tray ,the same food , the same sentence spoken .
“Hello mr Thomas it’s angie I’ve come to give you your dinner “
That same patronising tone that people so often use when talking to people of a certain age .Like we are toddlers who are in trouble not people who once served for our country .Who once stood face to face with death .Lying flat against the ground earth shaking beneath us while your friend lies next to you as stiff and as cold as the soup that’s now been given to me .
They forget we may be slightly less agile and are skin might not look as it once did but we have seen things that they could not even dream of .Been through things that not even I can bring myself to relieve not matter how many times my Brain tries to .
They see a helpless old man .Not the brave young soldier.Everyone judges but they never listen to the full story .
