The Baking Club
By: Hannah Thompson
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Claire and she loved baking with her mom when she was younger. But now, she can cook by herself-so she cooks a lot of things, such as Muffins, Pancakes, Cakes, and more! Let’s now fast forward to today: It was a typical Saturday morning and Claire had just woke up. No other family members were awake. She was thinking about making an amazing breakfast for the family, served with Pancakes, Eggs, and Hashbrowns, but the only thing was, Claire didn’t know how to make hashbrowns! So instead, she didn’t make hashbrowns. She made her family Pancakes, eggs, and she served it with either milk or orange juice, it was her family’s choice on which one they wanted to drink. She went outside to check the mailbox and she found a magazine with different clubs you can join in the middle school, if you are in middle school, of course. So, as she went back into the house, she saw everyone was awake and eating breakfast. Claire sat down in her chair and started reading the magazine. As she was looking through it, she found a baking club that she thought would be an amazing thing to do to learn how to make more things. So then, Claire asked her mom if she could join the club and go after school on Tuesdays’ and Wednesdays’. Of course, her mom said yes, but she had to ask her dad for permission first. And so Claire asked her dad, and he also said yes. There was many things Claire didn’t know how to bake, but she was pretty confident that she could bake anything and everything. Even things her family didn’t know how to make. —> It was now Tuesday and Claire was beaming for the door when the bell for the end of the day rang. She was so excited to start baking stuff with people in the club. The only thing she wasn’t excited about was that she wouldn’t know of anyone who was in the club until she got to the room they would meet in. Claire had waved to her friend, Emma as they both left class and went their ways to their lockers. As Claire got to her locker, she put her stuff away and started to the baking room where their club gathers would take place to start baking things. As she was walking, she spotted Emma going in the same direction as Claire. Emma immediately said, “Hi! Where are you going?” Claire said back, “I’m going to baking club, what about you?” “Omg! Me too! Let’s walk together!” Emma said, and so they did, in fact they got a table to bake stuff together. As they baking club head entered the room, there was silence. Then she spoke, “Greetings! Welcome to the baking club. If you have chosen to join this club, I expect you to know how to bake the common things, such as, pancakes, cake, cupcakes, and cookies. More things too, but now, this is where the fun comes. You will be making things, not common things, abstract things today. Firstly, I will have you make…steak! I will now be giving you 10 minutes to complete the steak and make it perfectly. The timer starts…NOW!” As soon as she said now, Claire and Emma immediately started to make the most perfect ever tasting, looking steak. When there was 5 minutes left, Emma was taking the steak out of the oven, Claire was getting everything prepared to put on it and add the sides to it, such as, fruit, salad, and chips. As the timer went off, everyone was doing the finishing touches, but one group was still not even close to being done. The head inspected the steaks perfectly, along with trying them. As she took a bite of the last steak, she immediately knew who she was going to pick as the winner of the steak competition. The head said, “I have now finished inspecting all of your steaks closely and I have come to a conclusion on who the winner is…Please congratulate Claire and Emma on the best steak! I loved all of your steaks, but now, this will be even harder to make. Can you all make…goldfish? Your timer starts…NOW!” They all started to bake and some groups looked up a recipe. But Claire and Emma knew exactly how to make the perfect goldfish. As the timer went off, Claire and Emma were the only ones fully done. As the head inspected the goldfish carefully, she again loved Emma’s and Claire’s goldfish they had made. “I have now finished inspecting your goldfish and have came to a conclusion that…Claire and Emma have won again!” They all started clapping and as the head spoke once again, there was silence. “I am fortunate to say that my time here with you today has come to an ending. You guys may now leave and go home, thanks for coming and I will see you all again soon! But next time…will be harder! Goodbye!” Claire and Emma leaned up against the wall, and they had no idea what was coming next.
