Jake and Zander stood in the middle of a roaring river racing against them at any moment they could be swept away. Their feet were frozen to the bone as this was in the middle of winter. Jake and Zander were both thirteen years old Jake had a strong build

Zander was skinny he had blue eyes and blonde hair although he was normally pale he was even more than usual because of the cold.they both wore white t shirts straight jeans the wore old beet up converse the were soaked. “ how much longer do we have to keep doin this it freezing?” Whined Zander “why can’t we just walk on the path” he said Jake turned to look at him frustrated “I already told you We are being tracked and they can see our footsteps in the path.” Said Jake they kept on trudging water in silence. Zander knew the whole time that he was being hunted but he never fully expected it. They were being hunted because every year their town takes the oldest sons for military training, but Jake wanted to help people and be a doctor and Zander didn’t know what he wanted to do but he was sure that he didn’t want to be in the military. So they ran and now they are here in the freezing cold second guessing their choices. They left their friends and family most of all Jake left his girlfriend. As the were moving against the current Zander got his foot caught on a rock and he face planted into the was his face felt like it froze in seconds his breath was taken away Jake screamed and tried to help him up but it was no use his limp body would only be able to be carried by Zander himself

“ wake up!wake up! Please!” As Jake said this Zander began to pick himself up “ thank God you are ok!” Jake held him up then he lightly slapped him across the face “ what the hell were you think?did taking a swim in freezing water sound good to you or are you just an idiot?!” Jake yelled “ I’m sorry my foot slipped and I hit my nose see it’s bleeding it really hurts .” Zander explained Jake froze in place he stuck his arm out to signal him to stop.”what is that?” Zander questioned as he point to the middle there was a shadowy dark character lingering there. Although they had stopped moving they realized that he was coming toward them. They were paralyzed by fear thoughts raced through their mind will this be how they die cold scared and alone ? Will they be taken to be in the military which is the least of their worry’s. Something was different Jake felt somewhere down in his heart that he knew this person. Then Jakes nose caught something that smelled like mettle he looked down and the water was dark he stuck his hand down and lifted hi hand up to his horror he realized that it was blood.Zander almost threw up at realization of this . As this happened the dark figure collapsed and adrenaline took over them and they ran towards the figure. They got to a shallow part where the water is still. Their hair was long and wet they wore a black dress which indicated that she was of no harm . They turned her over and her beauty gleamed in the moonlight. Although she was beautiful Jake was horrified at the sight of her because that was jakes girlfriend. He was praying that she was still alive. She coughed up blood “ Jake Jake “ she said in between coughs “ they stabbed me thinking you were around and killed your family I ran away trying to find you .” Jake went to touch her side and she winced of pain “ Lydia how can I help you?” Said Jake he tore a piece of his shirt off and wrapped it around her waist “we are gonna get you to a town .” She looked at him with longing eyes and knew that he was gonna take care of her even if he was thirteen years old he was very mature . He scooped Lydia up and carried her in his arms Zander led the way to make sure they didn’t fall. Finally dawn came and they reached a small town they rushed her to the nurses. They nurse were kind and

For what is gentle they all wore a warm smile. One of the nurses who was young whispered something into her ear and she smiled even though her pain was excruciating.after a couple days at the hospital Lydia finally began to regain her strength. Zander and Jake went to visit her at the hospital they wanted to ask her a question. “ knock knock.” Joked Jake “ come in.” Replied lydia “ I have a question what did the nurse whisper to you in your ear the day we arrived?” Asked Jake she looked and smiled “ oh she was saying that she is glad I am safe and that she loves because she is my sister.” She said “ I did not know you had a sister.” Jake said “ yep but what’s the plan.” She asked “ well a think it would be best if we stayed here.” Offered Jake Lydia smiled so big “ I would like that a lot.”

From that day on they still tell the story on how they lived and that they were thankful for what had happened because if not Lydia would never had seen her sister .

Jake would never had became a doctor, and well for Zander he would have never been able to play music .
