I walked to the peak of Rose Mountain and sat there for hours waiting for the clouds to pass. I was breaking every rule by being here. We’re not allowed to leave the dome or breathe fresh air. All the rules, every no felt like a cage for so long. I will face any punishment to feel the sun just once.

As the clouds begin to part, a ray of sunlight hits my face, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever felt before. The warmth on my face opens all my senses, and I can smell the pine scent of the trees and the rain falling from the clouds.

As the break in the clouds grows bigger and bigger, everything about my body feels lighter. I stand to hear the sound of the wind and the birds humming in the background, making me one with nature. Everything under the sun is in perfect harmony. The warmth extends to my fingers and legs, and I feel every direction the wind is blowing.

Smiling from ear to ear, with a joy I have never felt before. I pray under my breath,” Please don’t leave me. Please stay.”
