Chris paces back and forth, stopping to face Mara when he can no longer remain silent. His stare sends chills down Mara's spine. She takes a step back, edging closer to the front door.

"You can't think I would actually believe that you were with your mother all this time...do you?" Chris snarls through clenched teeth.

"I was! I told you that my mom had an eye doctor's appointment today and needed me to drive. I took her home and we chatted for a while. I came right home afterwards. Where... where did you think I was?" Mara hesitates.

Chris lets out a huff of air before moving inches away from Mara.

"I know you were seeing that douchebag that helped you run away last time. You told me...remember? You told me he was your mom's neighbor. You're trying to leave me again. Ain't you?" Chris's eyes widen with every word.

Chris reaches out, twisting his fingers in Mara's hair. Mara whines as she recoils, only making his grip tighter.

"No!! No! I'm not lying!!" Mara's tears roll down her face, leaving a streak of black down her cheek.

Chris pulls Mara away from the door, leading her to the kitchen. Mara follows obediently as Chris's hand is still full of her hair. Once in the kitchen, he flings her to the ground with a loud thud as she hits her head on the refrigerator. Mara clutches the back of her head before looking up to see what Chris is doing. Only then does she realize the gravity of her situation. Chris picks up the item he was looking for and smirks as he looks down at Mara. In his hand, he held Mara's phone, and it was...unlocked.

"Chris. I swear...I didn't see anyone other than my mom. Please believe me. Why would I want to run away? I'm...I'm happy here...with you." Mara forces out between the throbs in her head.

Chris laughs as he frantically scrolls through Mara's phone.

"Oh? Really? Well, we will just have to see about that."
