The Heart

(Idk how I feel about this one, it might be to fast paced and choppy, plz give feedback and enjoy!”

Jake and me crossed the street, heading to the new museum. He had just gotten a job their two weeks ago and he brought me here to show me the exhibit.

As we walked in I observed the lobby of the building the museum shared with a library. The lobby was filled with shelves and comfy chairs.

“The museum is a little ways back. Follow me.”

For the next 3 minutes I asked questions about the exhibit with little to no answer as we got deeper and deeper in the shelves. He then went through a small door that was propped open and walked down the bare hallway.

Finally we reached the end of the hallway as it shot off into a big room with tall ionic columns that seemed to stretch to the sky. In the middle of the ceiling was a huge mural that seemed to depict the Olympians. Aphrodite, Hermes, and Zeus seemed to be depicted the most. The mural showed scenes of love, heartbreak, and trickery.

There were klines lining the walls that were otherwise bare. And in the center, a glass case sitting on top of a short, elaborate, corninthian column. In the glass case was some sort of object that refracted light in a way that shot out color and made it impossible to figure out what it was.

“What IS that?” I warly walked closer. Jake grabbed my hand and rushed me to get closer.

“It’s a god’s heart!” He said excitedly.

“Wait what?”

“There’s this super old legend about a heart of glass, one with the power to change someone’s outlook on love. They found a rhyme about it on a piece of stone at this archeological site and later they found this on the other side of the world!”

“Wait wait wait! So basically there’s a legend about a god’s heart that can make people fall in love! And you belive this?”

“Or out of love! And yes! Tell me you can’t feel the power practically radiating off of it!”

I paused, yes I could feel the imence power of whatever this was.

“Wow, this is so cool. I’m gonna go…”

“Wait Sarah! I brought you here because I have to tell you somthing.”

“Yeah Jake?” I kept one eye on the heart, just in case.

“I love you Sarah, I’ve loved you forever. After my parents were killed in the fire, I realized just how much I love you. You’re all I have and I love you.” He took my hand and gazed into my eyes so hopefully.

“Jake…I love you but…not like you want me to. I love you as a friend and I always will.”

He dropped my hand as his expression turned ashen.

“Please love me back, you have to! Please you’re all I have!”

“I’m sorry! I would if I could but I don’t!”

He was about to plead again before his eyes sparked.

“You would if you could?” He asked warly.

“I don’t want to hurt you but I just don’t love you like that.”

“I can change that.” He turned his eyes to the heart.

I suddenly realized what he was thinking.

“Jake no! You can’t use the heart! It’s dangerous! It could kill both of us!”

“It’s a risk I’m willing to take. There’s no use living without you in my arms.” He ran to the heart and used his fist to shatter the glass.

“Jake no!” I screamed desperately as I tried to pry him away.

“Trust me Sarah! In a second you’ll love me as I love you! And you’ll be happy!” He gripped the heart as I got brighter and brighter, until it hurt to much to look at it.

A brilliant, blinding light shone through the room as I screamed his name.

“Jake!”
