POEM STARTER

‘Bees offer honey far more readily than they sting.’

Write a poem that begins with this line. What themes can this metaphor reflect?

It Pays To Bee Kind

Bees offer honey far more readily than they sting,

Birds are less likely to swoop than they are to sing,

A bark or a bite is more rare than a lick,

A horse will be ridden more than it gives kicks.

Humans are the same, we’re simple at heart.

We will stay united until you tear us apart.

You have my respect, until you do something to lose it.

You’ll have my trust so long as you don’t abuse it.

But fool me once shame on me, it won’t happen twice.

I’ll leave you wondering where went Mr Nice?

The slightest slight and I won’t forget it.

You can’t make it right, and I’ll make you regret it.

I’ll bide my time, plot out my revenge.

Whether it takes five years or ten.

Because I won’t be made to look like a fool,

And you won’t be allowed to live close to a school.

The cops will raid our workplace, they’ll put you in cuffs,

Into the evidence goes all your stuff.

“They’re not my photos officer, I’ve been set up!”

I guess that will teach you to use my favourite cup.
