POEM STARTER
'He shut the door wide open'
Write a poem ending with this line. How can you set up the poem so that this final metaphor makes sense?
Glass
Broken glass shaped like a cup,
It cracks and it breaks till it’s had enough.
A scratched up knife with scars of rust,
Each appears as the knife learns to trust.
Glass panels as walls:
See through yet no one sees through all.
A door bolted shut, opens up wide,
A strange visitor crashes inside.
The delicate walls begin to shake,
Holding itself together: it doesn’t want to break.
The visitor sees all that was unseen;
The visitor sees what was in plain sight.
The visitor stays and appreciates the damages made.
The end was the same:
The visitor leaves so abruptly,
Each panel tumbles and breaks.
The glass and the knife had enough.
Another rust.
Misplaced trust.
He shut the door wide open.
