Warmth In The Ice
Writing on theme. 4 poems.
1) A Path Through Snow
I pushed my way across the field of snow
but found the path as if I never crossed.
The trees adorned with white and icy clothes
all lost in season’s cold about the frost.
And still, I wait to see the wrong I did
as though the snow will prove the lie in me.
And yet, I see that no one ever saw
the path that was left for me.
No one left a shovel
or ploughed the snow.
If anything, they piled it up more,
then they came to ask help
but I refuse to work anymore.
2) Snowy Sun
When I tried to find myself,
the others beat me cold—
left me like a chunk of meat
on a freezer hook.
And so I stood alone,
pushing my limits.
I ended up needing cold,
feeling it missing as they looked on
from below.
They stared like ants
as I rose high in the sky,
a snowy sun.
3) Frozen
I can’t think of much other than Elsa
when I think of warmth in the ice.
And I hope that when I take off
my magic gloves,
I can find a castle of ice
waiting to show me the warmth
the gloves promised.
4) A Frosty Flower
Up, up, up—
I wandered the trail
to Mt. Elbert’s summit.
I pushed on
through the rocky paths,
the woods of trees, both dead and alive,
walking until the grass turned to snow
about my feet,
and I stopped to eat a can of beans
atop the white summit
only to see a pearl of sight,
a pink flower frozen in a clear rock
of ice.
