STORY STARTER

Write a story where people are limited to only three lies in their lifetime.
Is your protagonist about to use up their first, or maybe their last?
Lies
The first time I lied was really for a mundane reason. I was too young to realize then the truth behind only three lies. I had told my mom I hadn’t taken my younger brother’s toy and I watched a ripple of fear cross her face as she clapped her hand over my mouth. I watched with equal horror as a number three appeared above my head and ticked down to two. That day truly taught me the gravity behind lies because when you use all your lies up, you will perish within 24 hours. My mom told me how my uncle died choking on his dinner. How a friend from high school died in a horrific car accident. She didn’t spare any details in a morbid way to protect me from harm. I reflect on all of this as I now wait for my end. How will I go? A mysterious gas leak creeping in through the vents plotting its deadly plans. Will I slip and fall in my bathtub singing to T. Swift, that would be a particularly hard way to go. My countdown started two hours ago when I told my third and final lie and now I wait for the inevitable.
