WRITING OBSTACLE
Inspired by Samantha Roberts
Write a descriptive scene about a character feeling the sunlight on their face for the first time in a very long while.
Try to use as many senses as you can to capture this moment.
The Summer
Winter season was heavy and suffocating. The air was sharp and bitter, the landscape under a blanket of unwelcoming snow.
Some people say they liked winter, but not her. Winter was her hell, but instead of intoxicating heat it was frigid and claustrophobic coldness, demonic enough to drag her into the depths of a deep, desperate depression.
She stayed inside most of those days, partly to avoid the freeze but mainly because her heart couldn’t take it. It couldn’t take leaving, it couldn’t force itself to interact with the world. It was all she could do, to stay inside and try to survive.
The summer, however, was different. Just like how the seasons are antonyms, her demeanor was like opposites as well.
If winter was her hell, then summer was her heaven.
So when clouds moved back, and the golden sunrays spilt forward, when birds started singing and the lake started thawing, thats when she thrived. Thats when winter released it’s hold, when she wasn’t stuck anymore.
The first day of light, the first day of her summer, that day is like no other. When she stepped out into the sunlight, she could feel her frigid body melting. The heat pricked at her skin, as if welcoming her back. A cool breeze, a soft comforting sensation, whisked past her. The smell of honey and flowers surrounded her, the dirt dug into her relaxing skin.
The ground was dappled from the trees, the lake was glistening and enticing, the world was _alive. _

This was summer, and this was her happiness.
