STORY STARTER

Write a story that starts with a character realising that something in their life must come to an end.

Withering Away

What do you do when the person you love can’t love you in the way you yearn for? They love strongly and you love strongly but you both have unmet needs that you can’t fulfill. Do you ignore it? Do you hope your needs change?

Is it like a plant that has sun but no water? Do we wither away? Or is it a like a plant that’s in a pot that’s too small? Do we shrink? Or is it like a plant that’s vines on what it can find? Do we adapt?

Sheila felt like a withering plant who was start to losing her roots as she adapted. It would have been easier to leave if Jess was a terrible person. But he wasn’t. He was sweet and sincere.

Jess wondered why things couldn’t be easier. He cared deeply for Sheila but he also never quite got romance. He wasn’t a passionate sort of guy- everything was meh. He hated to admit it but he barely thought of Sheila when she wasn’t around. He barely thought of anyone.

Sheila walked around with a heavy cloud over her. She didn’t want to say bye to sweet Jess. She loved him and didn’t want to imagine life without him. But she knew this was slowly destroying her spark. She needed to find her way again; she needed to go out in the scary world to find herself again.
