STORY STARTER

A group of hikers see a series of flickering lights on the horizon. They follow them and discover something startling when they reach the source.

Captured

There was always folklore about the mysterious glow and glimmers that fill our night skies. If you stare at them long enough, you will notice them dance and twirl around with the cool autumn breeze.

The light orbs lured in visitors from outside the gates of Algonquin. The residents of the area knew not to follow these strange anomalies, but the people foreign to the location, were hypnotized.

The rumors from the locals whispered through the town, all were warned. These talks got back to the orbs and only strengthened the energy that they craved.

In 2013, a group of high school friends were exploring the woods along the main highway. They were originally there for a photography assignment, but got mesmerized by the beauty of the trails. The ups and downs of the rocks that line the pathway, the pine trees that reach higher than you can imagine, and the feeling of freedom that comes with the crisp northern air.

As they capture photographs of the landscape and stars, the glowing orbs made their presence known. Reviewing what they have captured, the explores went off the trail and created their own path. The orbs only appeared in their pictures, enticing them to follow their lead.

Suddenly, the last picture had all the orbs collectively hovering over a tree truck that seems to have been cut down years ago. They examined the rings on the wood, counting them, and taking more photographs of what the orbs lead them to.

Reviewing the photos again, they noticed a work written out of the fallen pine needles laying on the forest floor behind the stump. It read “captured”.

The light orbs danced and twirled in the cool autumn wind, circling around the explorers, building a force that trapped them at the stump. The roots of the tree that no longer existed ripped through the dirt, tangling around their ankles and absorbing their bodies into the soil.

These explores were just a rumor. A tale of the locals. Only if they really knew, the light orbs know all, and all is true. Just not to you.
