The mask is slipping

Day and night,

What burned a hole so bright

Branded my mind and heart

Until the cracked edges start,

The vision of a former self proclaimed

That my health was flourishing

When beyond those broken eyes my mind was self-imploding,

So I became what I believed myself to be with time

And life seemed to dull like a bad rhyme,

When suddenly my friend grabbed my hand

And started to tell me that she could understand

That’s when the tears began,

Somehow my heart began to burst

What hid in darkness is finally coming to light.
