POEM STARTER
The Revelation
Write a poem with a structured rhyme scheme, using this as the title.
The Revelation
In the beginning there was light
Hope and acceptance filling the hole.
An eternity of love and peace was promised
All I had to give away was my soul.
Eagerly, the trade was made
Never considering another road.
My life, my friends, my love had found me
Follow the path, and I’ll get what I’m owed.
Forewarned of trials to test my Faith,
God did not leave me out.
At times I begged for a morsel of mercy
Only to be told to have no doubt.
Ravaged by storms of longing, fear, and guilt
I began to board my windows.
But questions trickled in like a leak
Thoughts I knew I could never expose.
Would my eternity be pain and fire?
I started to question why I should stay.
Asking myself why I believe
In a loving god who would turn me away.
And then one day, I found a new light
Emerging from the dark mist.
Illuminating a path that was hidden
But what is the cost? What is the twist?
The price was the power I had given away
To something outside of myself.
The lost memories of who I am
Tucked away like a book on a shelf.
But once it was opened, it couldn’t be closed
I felt no more separation.
I am the creator of my life
And that’s the ultimate revelation.
