WRITING OBSTACLE

Inspired by Cleo Fitzsimmons

Write a dual narrative from two characters on different sides of a disagreement.

A dual narrative depicts both characters' perspectives, although it does not have to be written in first person. The disagreement could be something personal, where they both hold different views, or perhaps something like a war where they have the same opinion but from different sides.

NOOR’S PERSPECTIVE

"What I do with Rehan is none of your buisness."

Ayan scoffs.

Why is he being like this? So what if I go out with Rehan? He acting like he’s my actual boyfriend and not my fake one.

"Of course it’s my business. We’re friends."

"Oh yeah? Since when?"

A flash of hurt crosses Ayan’s face and I immediately get hit by guilt. "Ayan, I’m sorry. I really am-"

He cuts me off, "So you actually do hate me then? It wasn’t just some petty thing from when we were kids?"

"No, Ayan-"

"I actually thought you liked me you know?"

"I do like you." But not in the way you like me.

"But not in the way I like you."

Wait…What? "What’s that supposed to mean?"

"Don’t you see? I like you-I LOVE you. I realised the day I saw you with my little sister. When my family talked about you and I realised then—You’re the woman I want to marry."

He..Loves me? Ayan Khan loves me. He loves me back.

"Why do you think I created the FND connect app? Made this year’s fundraiser for FND? Because it sure as hell wasn’t because I hated you."

"Ayan…"

"But of course. Of course you still see me as the little boy who would pull your hair in the playground. As the teenage boy who would tease you relentlessly."

"Of course I don’t-"

"Then why? Why do you treat me like you see me that way?"

”Because I don’t want to accept the fact that I may love you as well!"

AYAN’S PERSPECTIVE

"What I do with Rehan is none of your business."

I scoff.

Why is she being like this? Can’t she see why I’m being like this?

"Of course it’s my business. We’re friends."

"Oh yeah? Since when?"

A flash of hurt crosses my face. I thought we were getting past this whole hatred thing. Clearly we weren’t.

"Ayan, I’m sorry. I really am-"

I cuts her off, "So you actually do hate me then? It wasn’t just some petty thing from when we were kids?"

"No, Ayan-"

"I actually thought you liked me you know?"

"I do like you."

"But not in the way I like you."

Noor’s brows furrows. "What’s that supposed to mean?"

"Don’t you see? I like you-I LOVE you." Why am I saying all this? "I realised the day I saw you with my little sister." Okay, Ayan, now would be a good time to shut up. "When my family talked about you and I realised then—You’re the woman I want to marry." Okay. I just said that. No going back now.

The whole word stops the second she blurts those words out. Noor loves me. Noor. Loves. Me.
