POEM STARTER
Submitted by Olivia Pemberly
Write an etiological myth in the form of a poem.
An etiological myth, or an origin myth, explains how something came to be the way that it is today.
Curved By Cupid
Humans were still being built
Century after century
The ones who’ll survive the storms
Smart enough to pick
What nots poison
Will pass on their traits
For a stronger generation
The gods had fun watching them
Cupid especially so
While they did not know language yet
Love was instinctive
Needed for primal pleasure
Often he’d see couples
Just merely look at each other
Then they’d make a baby right there
A story so boring
Can only be for animals
Humans could be so much more
So he came down
Touched the top of their upper lips
Creating a curve
For those who found love
His touch made it so the first sound
Of verbal affirmation was made
At first it was a grunt
Then hundreds of years will pass by
The word love will be created
