Moonlit (Chapter 5)

The young woman looked around, her eyes wide. Then she saw it—herself.

Her? But also… there?

“What the hell…” she muttered, glancing down at her hands. Transparent, flickering, unreal.

She dared to look back at her body. Blood… spilling from her head. Too much. Too real.

“Ew…” she whispered, stepping back, stomach twisting.

She ran, trying to process what had just happened.

Am I—? No. No, no, no…

BAM.

She collided with someone—another spirit. She stumbled and fell to the ground, clutching her head, as if that could make sense of anything.

The figure turned. Short black hair shifted slightly as he looked back to see what had happened.

And then… their eyes met.

Time seemed to slow. She stared up at him, her chest fluttering in a way she didn’t expect—like the world had gone quiet just for this moment. His eyes, warm and dark, held something familiar she couldn’t place, and for a split second, all the confusion melted into a strange, comforting calm.

He extended a hand, just a little hesitant, and she hesitated too… before letting him help her up. Their fingers brushed, and a soft shiver ran through her, not scary, not painful—just… new.

For a moment, the chaos of the city, the blood, the flashing lights, even her own fading body, faded away. It was just them. And it felt… oddly right.
