POEM STARTER

Write a descriptive poem which portrays a busy city.

You could use metaphors, imagery, and appeal to the senses, to really capture the feel of a city.

In-her City

In her city

She would rather chance it with the car lanes

Than brave the underpass

The shadows…

Scraping up coins from the gutter

Pennies from someone else’s heaven

Just enough to survive

Never enough to thrive.

People’s eyes slide past her outstretched hands

Invisible to everyone except the lowest.

The pigeons steal from anyone.

She wishes she has wings to fly out of here

Up into fresher air.
