**Five years later****
** (Eve is 18 years old)

“Thud.” The door sounds as it shuts behind her. Eve's luggage slides off her arms and onto the floor of her new apartment.

“Now I’m living by myself, in my own empty apartment… alone,” Eve thinks solemnly. She looks around her apartment, revealing a compact, rectangle-like room. The room has cold tile flooring, and the walls are painted an off-white color. There is a small window placed right above a small, frameless mattress in the corner, accompanied by a tiny lamp sitting on the floor. Across from her mattress is a shallow closet with white folding doors.

Eve starts to unpack her bag, putting her toiletries in the bathroom and her few pairs of clothes into her closet. She dresses her mattress, tightly tucking in her gray sheets and comforter under the bed.

Time flies as she’s settling in, and she realizes it’s already 8:30 PM.

“I have to get to bed on time. I have to wake up for school tomorrow…”

Eve bathes, brushes her teeth, locks her door, and clicks her dim lamp off, leaving her room dark. As Eve’s eyes adjust, she realizes the moonlight seeps through her window and onto her mattress.

Eve slides into her freshly made bed and shifts a little to the left, then to the right, trying to find a comfortable position. As she finally settles into a position, she drifts off into slumber land.
