STORY STARTER
Sirens wailed nearby, signalling the townsfolk to take cover from a danger they had tried to convince themselves wasn’t real…
Sirens
Over the years I convinced myself that it wasn’t true.
But the sirens blaring like crying children remind me we’ll never be safe.
Forever in fear of those outside the wall.
I don’t run.
There’s no point, nowhere to hide.
I look down at my cat.
Knowing that this’ll all be over soon.
A smile overtakes my face as I pick him up.
The only one who would miss me.
But I can’t save him.
So no one will miss me.
Tears stream down my face as I pull him close to my body.
I’ll miss you bud.
Or I won’t, who knows what’s after.
I feel every cell in my body get incinerated.
