Check Please

I clench my dress as he tightened his tie. “This is nice isn’t it? A nice outing for us.” He said, his gaze fixed on the loop.

“Yeah.” I responded, trying to act as normal as possible. He sighed, “Can you give me a hand love?” He asked leaning towards me in the car.

I look up at and nod, fixing his tie back into place. “There, can we go in now?” I asked.

He raised a brow,”What’s the rush sweetheart? We got all evening.” He responded fixing his hair in the rear view mirror.

“Hungry is all.” I responded.

Skeptical, he faced me.

“Fine then.” He helped me out of the car and led me inside. I couldn’t believe I’d dare do this but I couldn’t just do nothing.

He lead me to the lobby, and checked us into our table. I took a seat and looked down.

I guess he could tell I was aching with nervousness. “Are you okay?” He asked.

“Fine.”

“You sure? You’re sweating bullets.”

I nod.

He nods.

We eat.

“Good day at work?” He asks. “Yeah. You..?” I ask him, knowing very well what work was like for him today.

“Amazing actually, Em my new intern brought in this jelly donuts I love and we spoke for a little.” He said taking a bite of the appetizer bread stick.

Yeah she definitely brought ‘something’ to eat.

“You don’t have to pretend.” I blurt out.

He pauses, “pardon?”

“You don’t have to pretend you’re not cheating on me.” I keep going.

He freezes— the whole restaurant falls silent.

“We should do this in private…” he mutters.

“I want to do this now. If was already embarrassing for you to cheat on me with your employee, being exposed can’t be much worse.”

It was silent, everyone watched, some of them even recorded.

He sighed and looked down.

Not a peep came out.

I rolled my eyes, picked up the wine glass I had and dumped it on him before picking up my purse and walking out, leaving everyone stunned.
