(This is not about a toxic relationship)

Today was the day that Huo Linghun and Xiao Xin's big project was finally finished. They'd been slowly building a little bamboo house in their clearing between their travels and it was done at last. Huo Linghun finished fastening the door in place and the two of them stepped back to admire their new house.

It was very small but they didn't need much, just a place to shelter them in bad weather. It was clear that it was their first attempt at building a structure but that was okay. If it didn't last they would try again; it was very special to build a house together.

Huo Linghun gestured toward the door. "Would you like to do the honors?" he asked.

Xiao Xin smiled and nodded and reached to open the door to their house for the very first time. But it didn't budge. His smile melted into confusion. "I think it's stuck?" he said.

"Hmm, let me see," Huo Linghun replied. But he couldn't get the door to open either. "Maybe the lock fell into place inside..." he wondered aloud.

They had successfully locked themselves out of their house for the very first time.

Huo Linghun led the way over to a window and repeated, "Would you like to do the honors?"

Xiao Xin smiled and nodded. Huo Linghun helped him climb in through the window and then returned to the door. Xiao Xin unlocked it and opened it from inside, still smiling brightly as he said, "Welcome home!"

Huo Linghun joined him just inside the doorway, pulling him into an embrace. They kissed inside their house for the very first time.
