WRITING OBSTACLE
Write the climax of a murder mystery story without any reference to the victim or the crime itself.
The climax can be defined as the point in the story with the highest tension and stakes. How will you drive the story without mentioning the crime?
In Silence
The sound of cutlery scraping on plates, glasses clinking on the polished table, that’s all that can be heard in the silence.
Someone coughs, catching the attention of everyone at the table, making heads snap in the direction of the offending young man.
“S’rry.”
Several ill contented grumbles break the silence, eyes narrowed and heads shaking.
The sound of cutlery scraping on plates, glasses clinking against the polished table, are once again the only things breaking the silence.
BANG
Heads slowly turn in the direction of the door. Knifes and forks placed down with deliberate soft clinks on the table, glasses tapping as they’re put down too.
The black cloaked figure silently enters the room, then stands by the window, fingers tapping together.
“Always so damn silent.” A low voice comes from the cloaked figure as he turns to the empty room.
“Even when they were here, silence. But now… They aren’t just silent, they’re silenced…” he muses aloud, slowly pacing the room, stopping at each position at the table, carefully viewing the room from each angle.
“Revenge… Is it worth it?” He asks the empty room. The still air seems to stir slightly, answering him in silence, in truth.
