The Fall

It’s all a lie. History books are written by the victors, those who lost are left to rot. Betrayals are the worst, typically the victor is never the betrayed. This is the true story of how Caesar was killed. Granted the best lies hold bits of the truth, you see the books tell of Brutus stoicism and how his actions were motivated by his wish to presurve Rome. While this is correct to some extent, it isn’t the full truth. Brutus was inteligent more so than most in his time. He knew the letters Cassius sent were fake, he knew Cassius was an ambitious greedy man. But more than anything else he knew Ceasar would bring about the fall of Rome. So he played along, biding his time, feigning conflicting desires he had to seem the just and virtuous friend. So when the time came he could not only land the ending blow but he could look into his eyes and smile. Knowing the last thought ceasar would ever have would be his rejoicing face. As Brutus saw the light begin to fade in Caesar’s eyes he whispered one last line of wisdom “ we all look the same in the dark Caesar, had you know this maybe you’d have become the Roman emperor of this new age. But alas thine greed has clouded your judgment. After all a man with a sickness of mind and body could never become emporer.” So now you know the truth, Brutus was not the rueful murderer as was once implied. He saw his chance to seize Caesar’s power and he gleefully took it. So remember always keep your friends close, your enemies closer, and never stand in the dark.
