POEM STARTER
Write a poem which uses the scenario of being a fly on the wall.
To be a fly on the wall is to witness something private. Think of a situation in which this eavesdropping would be interesting, and write a poem based on your thoughts.
Bumpy Ride
As I ride the bus home, a voice I know too well.
Unbeknownst to her I hear them talking on their cell.
As I’m scrolling through my socials trying not to hear,
The sentence that she mutters perks up my little ears.
She is my friend’s fiancé but she doesn’t use his name,
It sounds like it’s a side piece for this player in the game.
A hotel name is mentioned followed by a day and time,
Bad news for them that there’s a witness to this heinous crime.
I jot down all the details and I text them to my mate,
Apologising for the alarm, expecting him irate.
Instead I get a composed text sent right back at me,
Their marriage rules allow instances of planned polyamory.
My face turns red and now I see her in a very different light,
And find myself now curious and envisage her delight.
I gulp and then approach her, expect to hear her scoff,
But instead we press the button, we’ll both be getting off.
