You accidentally stumbled through a wormhole that led you to another dimension... but you didn't even realise until things started getting very strange.
Begin this sci-fi story in a world that seems familiar, but gradually becomes less and less normal.
The Fae’s Fruit
My alarm blared, startling me awake, I tried to reach my phone but somehow it was across my room, where were my glasses? Oh my head, my world spun as I stumbled across the floor to get to my phone that had continued to screach at me, damn. My alarm must have been going off for almost an hour, panicing I rushed down the hall after seeing the time reading 8:55 Am, that was my last reminder to leave for work. My apartment was surrounded in sticky notes, reminders, planners and calanders, cats were on automatic feeders and a water fountain. My roommates tend to be forgiving about my whirlwind lifestyle as it keeps me from leaving the grocery shopping or the cleaning or the rent to past the last moment.
Today I knew I had missed something, something was missing but I just could not place a finger on it. Leaving that mystery behind for now I ran through my morning routine, showering, brushing my teeth and jumping damp into the first clean dress I found that the office manager would deem exeptable, putting on mascaara and the quickest makeup possible I was out the door with two muffins an apple and an iced coffee placed in the fridge the night before. Checking the time? 9:15. Not bad but I would still be late if I didn’t hurry, eating my breakfast in my car would have to do.
Walking past my neighbours on the stairs I rushed out of my building into, into where the hell.
I turned around, my building was gone! My glasses! I took them off, cleaned them on my skirt and replaced them on my face. After a few attempts at this I took a breath, this could not be real, there was no way this wasn’t a dream, did someone put drugs into her drink last night? No she was awake moments ago, wasn’t she?
I sat in the grass, what was that scent? Leaning down I sniffed delicately, yes it had to be, the grass smelled like apples, looking around more closely I finally saw the lush field I had found herself in. With no cars or buildings in site I was surrounded by grass and the occasional wild bushel of wild flowers.
I took a breath and instantly relaxed, how was that even possible?
No! No no no this is impossible, I stood up quickly, fist things first I have to figure out Is where the hell I am, no time for sitting still I have to get to my meetings, I need to either prove to myself this is a dream or find out how I got here and get the hell back.
“Allright Georgie time to get to work” sipping my iced coffee as I started off twards, wherever I wash going, forward ho and all that.
As Georgie walked the world around her continued to amaze her, trees hanging heavy with fruit, strange birds and other small flying things that zipped around too fast to see. The land slowly transformed from fields to forest and she considered if she had chosen the wrong direction. She had long past eaten her breakfast and was beginning to suspect she wouldn’t get home for dinner. She wasn’t unfamiliar with roughing it in the woods however Georgie much prefered her cozy bedroom with its 8 pillows, fluffy blankets and general softness. There were spots of mossy ground and small spaces in the trees that could make due for the night however she wasn’t completely ready to give in for the day. But she was not alone, the trees whispered measages to each other. The little folk watched from under their flower caps as the strange girl explored, this had to be the first human to be tricked here in nearly a hundred years. The girl was watched, covertly as to not scare the human. Who knows who pulled the girl into their world? Whoever it had been would not leave her to her own devices for long.
I walked for what seemed like hours, I finally found a rock to sit on for a brief break. My feet were killing me! How much longer could i go on for? Taking off my shoes was blissful, I set them down and examined my surroundings. Beautiful as everywhere she had been today had been, the trees around her were lush with blue trumpet Lillys around the base of the trees, smaller Allium flowers spread around. There were bushes of berries she had never seen before, streams flowing bright and clear, with fish popping up at times to startle her. All the wile the scent of fresh apples hung in the air.
‘If I knew how I ended up here I might have come on purpous one day’ Georgie thought to herself.
Grumbling I began to pick through my surroundings, collecting water from the nearby stream in my now empty iced coffee cup, reusable thankfully. The water was perfect, not freezing but had an electifying feel to it that begged her to take a swim, knowing better for now I stood, making my way back to my ‘camp’ where i had left my purse and shoes. The later the day became the more aware I became of the percariousness of my situation. My roommates would be wondering where i was, I had long given up on calling them. No service in paradise I supposed, who would they call when I didn’t come home? My boss? The bar from last night? The police? With my parents not in the picture they would eventually give up I supposed. Someone had better look after her cats or there would be hell to pay whenever she Did get back.
Georgie picked a few berries on her walk back, wrapping them in her skirt, at least it was a dark fabric. She sat in her camp and examined the fruit, how to tell if they were poisonous for certain? Georgie rubbed one along her arm squelching some juices out of it, a trick she had heard from an old friend years ago. If it was poisonous there should be a reaction on my skin, I waited and watched, no reaction. The berries looked delicious on their own, blue and red, plump. My stomach grumbled reminding me that I hadn’t eaten in hours. Picking up a berry I brought it to my lips-.
“Stop! Don’t eat the fruit!”
