The Burden of Memory
Write a poem that could have this as its title.
The Burden Of Memory
They say that an elephant never forgets,
This should bring joy, in truth it upsets.
I must relive all the pain in my past,
Embarrassing moments; doubt that was cast.
I watch others live on in ignorant bliss,
The void in their mind like an endless abyss.
All in one ear, and then out another,
Forget and forgive, there’s no need to suffer.
But I sit here feeling I’m rather pathetic,
Due to the fact, my mind is eidetic.
I wallow in choices that I did not make,
I can’t forget every stupid mistake.
I put up with people stubbornly wrong,
Remember all lyrics to terrible songs,
It ruins relationships, both family and friend,
A curse I must carry til my bittersweet end.
