Dust Begone
It was out of control. The dust that accumulated in Harvey’s room. Sure she has unofficially moved into her boyfriend’s apartment staying there every night but you’d think she was gone for years the way each move she makes there a cloud of dust visible to the eye making an effect.
She freed her day up for this task so she geared up. Rags, feather dusters, vacuum and most importantly a heavy duty mask. She can’t afford to get sick, she has bills and a debt from a hidden shopping addiction.
Nobody tell Xavier this.
Looking like a new superhero with the most utilitarian mask she found on discount and overalls that was probably built for a man, Harvey started with dusting.
Or the dust ended up on her.
Actually what was the use of a feather duster? After one swipe its filled with dust and now that the dust has settled into fog territory, Harvey just snapped the useless thing in half.
Next was wiping everything down with a rag. Except one swipe and the water was black. Harvey ignored the logistics of her water bill and the ongoing drought as she went back and forth getting a fresh clear pale of water for the rags. She will have Xavier stay here and negate all those free loader accusations from him.
Apparently dust was also a great dyeing solution as her once white rags were forever stained with her neglect of her own apartment. Damn Xavier for tying her to the bed every night.
With consent of course.
Looking around, Harvey wasn’t sure she made progress. Her time check showed she’s been at this for 2 hours already. Everything still gave off abandoned during the apocalypse vibes.
Time for the vacuum then.
It was loud and bulky as it sucked everything. The machine was from the 90s but boy did it do its job. Finally making progress, Harvey moved furniture and dusted the deserts beneath rivaling the Sahara. She ignored what was probably dead creatures and continued vacuuming til a call from Xavier signaled to her, that she was far from done.
Taking off the mask, the air quality in the room has significantly improved. It didn’t smell musty.
Doing the ultimate test, Harvey wiped her finger on the floor. Inspecting it, she realized it.
Her finger was black not just with dust but with black asbestos. She went through too many awful apartments to ignore it.
Unannounced Xavier opened the door and Harvey in all her messy self from cleaning tackled him to go back out.
With her on top of him, Xavier smirked. “Excited, aint cha?”
Harvey got off him. “You can’t sleep here. Let’s go back to your place.”
“Why? I thought you’ve been cleaning.” Xavier wiped dust off her cheeks.
Harvey quickly grabbed his hands and wiped it on a spare clean rag. “You’ll die.”
“Why is there a giant rat?”
“Yea but not just that.” Harvey thought about his privileged upbringing and knew one inhale of what was in her room would send him to the emergency room just like how one Coke would send a Victorian to an early grave. Can’t fact check though so don’t quote me.
“It can’t be that bad.” Xavier used the rag to wipe her some more in places like her neck.
“Its asbestos.” With that Xavier dropped the rag and carried her bridal style. He must be lifting weights all the time to casually do this to her outside the bed room.
I’m going to stop talking about their couple activities. I swear. This story is almost over.
“I’m literally covered in asbestos.” Harvey deadpanned but nonetheless made no effort to get off him.
He pecked her quickly on the lips. There were dust bits on his face just like her. “Mmmhh didn’t know asbestos could be so tasty.”
With that they left never coming to the apartment as it and other surrounding apartments would be considered biohazards and unfit for humans to live in.
