STORY STARTER

The writer stared at the post-it on the wall. She knew it would change her life for the far, far worse…
‘Pink Sticky-Note.’
Melanie Herbertson. Critically acclaimed author, clever inspirational feminist, and mother to a four year old boy. She had it all. Practically in the sense of love, happiness and community that is. But everything would quickly shift for the worst when one very popular book she published would go horribly wrong.
Melanie gleefully had published the book titled ‘Blood Bath’ about a dramatic murder mystery involving a main character who she had somewhat subconsciously made very similar to herself. Long honey colored hair and dark brown eyes, tall and admittedly scrawny. Upon publishing the book the public screamed their cries of excitement and joy over each paragraph, drinking in the climax and turns like a hungry infant to her mothers milk.
But now as Melanie stood before her bulletin board, the very board just months before had contained merely the plans for a new sequel to her already famous book, she was in a cold panic. Her eyes dilated, short of breath suddenly although air was clearly accessible. She numbly brought her fingertips to the small bright pink sticky-note stamped straight in the middle of her board.
She didn’t recognize the stick-note, and even if she had the message was bone chilling enough to be unable to rip her eyes away. The message read, “I will make you Maggie.”
In ‘Blood Bath’ the main characters name was Maggie, a young woman with a family and lovely life who suffers great tragedy from the string of mysterious murders taken place in the fictional novel. Melanie barely had time to process the note before she noticed that her window was open. The cool night breeze was plowing through her house, taunting her as she stood defenseless in the middle of her office.
Melanie snatched the sticky-note and stuffed it in her pocket, making her way to the small cramped laundry room. She closed the door, slouching down in the corner as she slowly took out the sticky-note. She re-read it, again and again. What else could it mean?
Suddenly she heard a scream, horrific and painful. But it wasn’t what Melanie had expected. It sounded familiar. She leapt to her feet running to her front door swinging it open to find her sisters crumbled body broken and bleeding in front of her.
This was only the beginning… whoever had left the note and presumably done this was following the book exactly. Killing each person in Melanie’s life with precision and accuracy. Melanie breathed a long pankied breath.
This was truly, only the beginning.
