When we hear her parents fight

And I hate to wonder

What went on that night.

For I see bruises on her face

I see the cigarette burns

When her father calls out to her

I see how in fear she turns.

Is my friend safe and sound?

I cannot help but think she is

If her father is not around.

And as the storm subsides I hear

Sirens screaming in the night

I lift a prayer up for my friend

That God will keep her safe tonight.

But the sounds are at her house

I hear the chaos at her door

I rush to see what is happening

At her house next door.

I am thankful she is safe and sound

At their home this night.

My friend’s own father threatened her
