‘Once In A Blue Moon’
Once in a blue moon by J.Seefeld.
Once upon a time there was a man named Harold Archer. He lived in a small town with a close knit community located in a rural field farmland area. He was happy, well mostly. He felt something was missing, something he longed for. And that thing, was a lover. Someone to hold and to swoon over. Someone to kiss goodnight and make coffee for each morning just because you love them. He longed for that connection and one day, he was at last blessed with it.
Harold loved to stargaze, and one marvelous night he met a girl named Cynthia Bloom. She had a bakery downtown which he had visited numerous times before but never actually ordered from. She also shared his love for stargazing and soon the two fell into a deep and steady love.
But things came crumbling much too soon. Cynthia’s father made a contract with a wealthy businessman, forcing her to marry his son in order to give her family the benefit of the money and financial security. So she did, leaving Harold but promising that she would visit him once every full moon in secret.
Years passed and the two continued to meet every full moon, until one day she stopped. Harold was heart broken, but as he gazed up at the crystal white moon he noticed something strange. A blue hue had emerged over the moon, shadowed it and making it appear the color of Cynthia’s eyes. A bright blue color. He watched ad the color drifted and bled over the stars to his feet, a shadowy woman appearing.
“My dearest Harold. I have passed as I could no longer handle being away for so long. But I assure you, you will see me once every blue moon.” She spoke. Harold questioned, “But when my dear will the next blue moon be?” Cynthia shook her head sadly, “It will not be often my love, I apologize for the inconvenience.. I wish I could’ve stayed stronger longer.”
With that she vanished and left Harold in a pit of dismay and hurt. Alas he held on to hope that every blue moon she would appear. But there was never another blue moon, the phrase he would repeat to the other stargazers and his friends would always be.
“Once in a blue moon.”
