Musical Tears
It was a beautiful afternoon
The sun was bright and warm
The river drifted lazily
On it floated pieces of my heart
Torn out and then sent on their way
Paper boats filled with more dreams than you could count
My breath caught as I smelled a hint of lemon
Too familiar to mistake
I pulled the old acoustic guitar against my body
It held me grounded for a moment
And then my fingers stretched to play the simple song of hopelessness
After everything had been torn away
I strummed G, C, D
And sang the song that beat with my heart
_“I don’t know where I am_
_Lord help me if you can_
_You say you’ve always been_
_But how can I know?_
__
_When you’ve taken all I love_
_My friends my family and trust_
_And left me less than dust_
_So how can I know?_
__
_If you’re real or if you’re not _
_If you’re just a wishful thought_
_But then again how can I not_
_Believe in you?_
__
_My very breath speaks your name _
_And it’s always been the same_
_Could there be a reason you take_
_YHWH?”_
__
__
Tears flowed from my eyes as I strummed the final chords
