'Beneath the willow, you will find…' Finish this sentence, and use it somewhere in a poem.
Box Of Memories
Beneath the willow, you will find a box
Small but mighty enough to withstand time
Holding precious belongings
Of 4 friends
They dug the hole deep enough
That four highschoolers were capable of
One by one they parted ways
Leaving behind the things that made them who they were
At the time
Who are you really at 15?
The older they got, the farther apart they grew
Expectedly
It’s a loser’s game keeping in touch with friends from school
Just like going to a highschool reunion
Others will be boasting of their great adult lives
While the 4 have nothing to be particularly proud of
Unmarried, unpromoted and generally unremarkable compared to their valedictorian turned CEO
Sponsoring a sushi buffet
Naturally as if nothing changed
They got together
Complained that rich people are so weird
All that money and they decide raw fish is whats going to be given to everyone
What are they?
Cats?
Their laughter infected each other
The conversation grew to reminiscing
The box was remembered
4 spoons dug into the tree still there standing
Once opened
They saw
The hankerchief of a fond ex who took their virginity
Smelled awful
A ring stolen from a parent
Who was going to give it to his mistress
A broken heel from a sharp stilleto
Used to stab a man in the eye
Lastly an old ID
Brightly smiling, absolutely destroying picture day
They weren’t sure they were going to see each other after today
Whats definite is that they ditching the rest of the reunion
Pawning a stupid ring
End up wasted at a 24 hour bar
Together, like the group of messes that they can be, only with each other
