STORY STARTER
Your friend works for the local newspaper, creating the clues for the crossword. One day, you realise they are trying to give you a message.
A Danger Beneath A Paper
I skipped down the sidewalk, right by the newspaper stand. I tossed a coin to Mike behind the counter and lifted up the piles of folded paper.
I marched to the picnic table just a mile from the paper stand. I sat down on the rotting wood, tacking out a pencil and beginning to do the crossword.
It was my favorite thing to do. I looked forward to it each time I walked by the stand.
I quickly figured out that the first word was “it”. I sat there for a few moments wondering what the question meant by “a two letter word that we use instead of proper pronouns”.
I was stuck so I ran across the street and bought a coffee.
The cream refreshed me and I came to the conclusion that it was, “isn’t”. Bad clue. Very bad. I guess it’s fine. I still got it and it fit.
The next word was safe. I figured this by the clue, “the opposite of dangerous.” I sighed, sipped the last bit of coffee and filled in the next word. “Run”.
The pattern of words was concerning so I decided to kove my place once again and go far to the library.
The next word was help. When the final word of the puzzle was solved me heart began to race. I dialed the number of the poilice. The last word was “us”.
