Your character throws an innocent teaparty, but serves something that causes quite a controversy.
The Pottery
Adults surround the table, whispers of excitement create the lively hum of the yearly tea party. A tradition. One that people wait for from the moment the previous one concludes. Men and women gather round, dressed in fancy clothes, fit for the auspicious occasion.
The year is 1479 in the town of Kantor. A quiet town made up of a few hundred cottages that litter a small valley. The weather is always warm and birds are always about. It is a town that over the course of history will be deemed, forgettable, uninteresting. Though one day will remain remembered. The day of the Tea Party.
Prior to the Tea Party, hundreds of people wait on a long line, hoping to get chosen. The line could take days, as nearly every adult in town waits to put their name in the basket. The chosen, of course, get the luxury of participation, while the others merely watch.
Jack and Berta are one of the few selected this year. Only twenty six get to come, resulting in only thirteen couples. It is an honor, a privilege, an immense pride to have a seat at the table, to taste the delicious delicacies.
Jack can't help but beam as he walks through the streets, his head held high. He is not just any selectee, but one that has been picked once previously. He is well aware of the rare delights that are soon to dance on his tongue.
As the day approaches the set up begins in the center of town. The single large well, the center-piece of the party is covered in a wooden board to be made the table. A blue tent is put up and bleachers are assembled within for the rest of the town. Fancy pottery is placed on the well, and twenty seven individual chairs are placed around it. One for the mayor.
When the day finally arrives, the world can feel it. A light spirit fills the air and joyous songs can be heard throughout. Jack and Berta prance their way to the center of town along with the other selected couples. A crowd has already formed and seats have been taken. Quickly, Jack snatches a center seat and points Berta to the chair to his right.
The Mayor arrives and the Tea Party commences. Music, dancing and most importantly, food. Biscuits and fruit, chocolates of all sorts and this was just the appetizer. The main course, however, was the real star of the show.
The crowd falls silent as waiters bring the main dish. Covered in metal it was impossible to see, but one thing was clear, it was big. Jack began to shake, the anticipation taking hold. His memories of his last party still ingrained in his mind.
The silver platters are placed down, each couple receiving their own. "Wait," announced the mayor. A chubby and short fellow, someone who might be confused for a penguin if seen from behind. "I would like to make a toast." No one objected. " This Tea Party has been the light of our year for as long as I can remember. It is the center of what we preach, and the heart of our community. It is our glue." He stands up a bit straighter as people lean in closer. "For Kantor!" he proclaims. Everyone responds back in unison, "For Kantor." The metal covers are lifted.
Dead children. Deliciously plump dead children. Their bodies served in a beautiful fashion that no one could resist. They dug in.
