WRITING OBSTACLE
For your birthday, you receive a pair of glasses that allow you to see hidden or invisible things…
Inner thoughts
I saw a mysterious package, it was addressed to me. It was a box wrapped with white wrapping paper, but with no return address. But I decided to open it anyway. I mean what’s the worst that can happen, I thought.
I began to open the package and saw a pair of glasses. I thought nothing of it, until I tried them on.
I looked at myself in the mirror and thought I looked cute. As I was posing in front of the mirror, my guy best friend came in.
“Hey! Don’t you know how to knock?” I asked.
“You’re so cute when you pose in front the mirror.” Said Braxton as he messed my hair up.
As I took the glasses off I accidentally dropped them to the ground.
I turned around to pick them up.
“She’s so gorgeous. The way the hoodie fits her and her smile, oh her smile. I could watch her for days and never be bored of her.” Said Braxton.
I immediately turned around, faced him and put the glasses back on.
“Braxton?” I asked.
“Yes.” He replied.
“What did you just say right now?” I asked.
“I didn’t say anything.” Replied, Braxton.
“You-you, u-um, didn’t you just say something?” I replied, scratching my head.
“No, you must be hearing voices.” Said Braxton, letting out a small giggle.
“Well anyways, it’s getting late. I should probably head home now. Happy birthday, love.” Said Braxton.
“Mm. What did you say?” I asked.
“I meant, um, lovely hoodie. Good night.” Replied Braxton, and he left.
“Huh.” I thought out loud.
My boyfriend then came into my room.
“Hey, babe.” Said Zaine.
“Hi.” I replied.
“I should make an excuse that my mom is calling me. Yeah, that way I can get out of here. She is too much for me. Maybe I should break up with her. No, no, then my guy friends will ditch me for breaking up with someone so gorgeous, and not to mention one of the top athletes at the school. She gives me my popularity. Ugh, this is so annoying.” Thought, Zaine.
“Excuse me, what did you just say to me?” I asked.
“Huh, what?” I didn’t say anything.
“Uh, yeah you did. You said you want to break up with me, but you can’t because I give you your popularity.”
“How, how? What?! I didn’t say that.” Replied Zaine.
“Oh so you thought it.” I rolled my eyes.
“Yeah! No! I mean.” Replied Zaine.
“You know what, we’re done. Go cry to your friends.” I said.
“Wait.” Asked Zaine.
“I said, leave.” I stood my ground.
Zaine left.
I took the glasses off and finally understood. These glasses had powers. I could hear people’s thoughts.
And then, the doorbell rang.
I opened the door and saw Braxton.
“Hi, i’m sorry. I left my jacket here.” Said Braxton.
“I broke up with Zaine.” I said.
“Oh are you alright?” Asked Braxton.
“Yeah, I don’t know why I liked him anyways.” I said.
“But do you know who I like?” I asked looking into his eyes.
Braxton stepped closer and grabbed my hands.
He leaned in, and kissed me.
“I might know who.” Braxton smiled.
“Braxton.” I said.
“Yes.” He replied.
“I know what you thought in the bathroom. These glasses make me hear people’s thoughts.” I said.
“Oh.” He giggled.
“So you know what I was thinking in the bathroom?” He asked.
“Yes, but I feel the same way.” I replied, smiling.
And with that, the night had ended. It was the most special birthday anyone could have asked for.
